The 6th Congress of the International Society of Intraoperative Neurophysiology was held this fall in Seoul, South Korea. As usual, the faculty was outstanding, and the syllabus generated deeper understanding of established IOM techniques.
Exciting new developments across the field were presented as well. Perhaps most interestingly, as this was the first Congress to be held in Asia, an entire section was devoted to an overview of the status of IOM in many of the developed and emerging countries in this diverse continent. Representatives from India, China, Korea, and Japan gave detailed summaries of the history and current state of IOM, touching on efforts to increase awareness, expand availability and meet growing demand for this service. Barriers impeding these efforts were identified and discussed as well. NeuroAlert is poised to develop collaborative partnerships with local leaders in the IOM field to promote its growth throughout Asia and beyond, and I’m grateful to be a part of these efforts.
