Last week, we bid a bittersweet farewell to Anthony, who’s taking the ultimate leap β joining the United States Space Force! This might be one of the coolest reasons to leave #IONM in the history of the field!! ππ¨βπ
Joining #NASA has been his dream for many years, and the road to NASA begins with a move halfway across the country and starting Space Force basic training in a few weeks! He has astronomical life goals, including getting his Ph.D. in Geology and becoming an astronaut! Anthony is an inspiration to all of us to never stop following your dreams! π§βπππ§
Anthony has been an invaluable part of our team for several years, bringing dedication, expertise, and a passion for patient care. Β As he embarks on this cosmic journey, we couldn’t be prouder! He is reaching for the stars (literally), and we hope that his journey is filled with exciting adventures and groundbreaking discoveries! ππͺ
We’ll miss you here on Earth, Anthony, but can’t wait to hear about your cosmic endeavors! π
Take a moment to read Anthonyβs personal statement. πππ
Our favorite words from him as he departs are: “I’ve been looking forward to my mid-life crisis for a long time now and I’m really trying to make the most of it.” π

βNot only do I want to explore space and to help develop programs and protocols for development of future space-personnel and exploration, but I also want to become proficient in technologies that will facilitate the new space boom we are in today. The opportunity to train with the US military on ways to develop space programs and to learn more about the technologies that support it is enticing enough, but the opportunity to do so while serving my country and protecting its people is almost too good to be true. I do see military training as a means to aspirations of working in space with NASA, but I see the Space Force as an amazing opportunity in itself and I am incredibly excited to be a part of developing and promoting its ideals indefinitely.
I believe I have the spirit and character to faithfully fulfill its mission statements, current and future. I am thrilled at the opportunity to contribute and am incredibly proud to do so. This is the first time in my life that I am embarking on a journey in which I feel that I have a family legacy. After realizing this, my entire world has changed. I have felt the pressure to decide on a career path since the fifth grade, but only now at 35 years of age have I found my purpose. I donβt know if Iβll make it. I donβt know if Iβll qualify. I donβt know if I have the mental or physical rigor to allow me to make it to the top, but I am bursting with the willingness to find out.β
